About
Nick Taiber's Story

Born on November 4, 1976, and raised in Waverly, Iowa, Nick Taiber is the youngest of five children. Nick's parents, Tom and Sue Taiber, lived serving family, business, and community. Values, faith, hard work, and occasional fun formed the fabric of life. Cedar Falls was known as Mom's hometown and the big city, and home of grandparents Gordon and Lue Zurbriggen. As with any child of that time, days were full of school, work, and just a little play.

Taiber Family Photo After graduating with distinction at Waverly-Shell Rock, Nick enrolled in the University of Iowa's College of Engineering. While at University, Nick worked continuously at the Old Capital Museum as a docent and the Iowa Driving Simulator as a researcher. Nick also volunteered for the Student Alumni Association (as ambassador), Campus Planning Committee (as committee member), Institute of Industrial Engineers (chapter president), and Hawkeye Engineer (advertising manager). In 1998, Nick began an internship for John Deere in Moline as a process engineer before graduating with engineering honors.

After college, Nick moved to the Quad Cities with John Deere and purchased his first home in Rock Island. While at John Deere, Nick assisted in the development of advanced manufacturing technologies spending time in the US, Canada, Germany, France, Finland, and Mexico. Nick fulfilled continuing education from Flow Vision and JCIT Demand Flow Technology Institute. While in Rock Island, Nick volunteered with the Keystone Neighborhood (board member and web developer), the Rock Island Parkway and Intra-city Bicycle Study Task Force (member), and Rock Island Preservation Commission (commissioner). He was a Community Leadership College Graduate and recipient of the Rock Island's Volunteer and Activism Award.

In 2004, Nick went on sabbatical from John Deere for courtship and adventure travel. He and his fiance, Molly LaGrange, traveled Central America for several months and were married on July 23, 2004, in Honduras. Following this adventure, Nick made a conscious decision to relocate close to family in the Cedar Valley and began work for CPM/Roskamp of Waterloo as Business Development Manager. In this role, Nick has taken on a variety of responsibilities from merger and acquisition support to technology development. In each case, he facilitates diverse groups to support customers and the end-goals of the business. Much of his time is devoted to gathering information, disseminating, developing action plans, and plan execution.

With his move to Cedar Falls, Nick became closer to his roots and family. His most important duties are his most favorite, Julian (15 January 2006) and Roman (6 September 2007) Taiber. In addition, he is closer to his parents of Waverly, and grandmother from Cedar Falls, now residing in Waverly. He is also blessed to share community life with his twin brother, Jon Taiber and family, also of Cedar Falls.

Nick is currently an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Overman Park Neighborhood Association, and Self Help International (board member). Nick is an avid reader (reading Atlas Shrugged), runner (finisher of five marathons), bicyclist (regular work commuter), and home improver (the projects are done, almost).

On January 2nd, 2010, Nick began serving the citizens of Cedar Falls as its at Large representative. From here, we can make it happen, let it happen, or wonder what happened (adpated from John Richardson, Jr.).
